WPF NIGERIA – REF. WPF-SC-ABJ-EOI-2025-001
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE UPDATED SUBMISSION TIMELINE.
The UNITED NATIONS WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME (WFP) OFFICE IN ABUJA, Nigeria, invites agricultural engineering companies to express their interest in the prequalification process for the installation of solar-powered irrigation systems in Konduga LGA, Borno State in the first instance.
LOT I: 50 HA Konduga Surface Irrigation installation;
LOT II: Water Reservoir expansion, including related water conveyance infrastructure, boreholes, and equipping.
Background
Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, is known for its diverse landscape and significant agricultural activities. The state capital, Maiduguri, serves as a vital economic hub. However, the region has faced challenges due to prolonged insurgency, leading to large-scale displacement and disruption of livelihoods. The state is transitioning towards recovery, with efforts to resettle displaced populations and rebuild communities. Konduga Local Government Area (LGA), situated approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Maiduguri, has been significantly impacted by the insurgency, resulting in the displacement of many residents and the destruction of essential services. The Konduga Irrigation Project is crucial for restoring agricultural productivity and improving food security in the region. By implementing efficient irrigation systems and solar-powered solutions, the project aims to enhance agricultural productivity, support sustainable food production, and promote resilience among vulnerable populations, including returnees, resettled IDPs, and host communities.
Project Objectives
- Facilitate sustainable food production through efficient irrigation systems and water reservoirs.
- Provide renewable energy solutions using solar-powered systems for water pumping and lighting.
- Improve access to irrigation facilities, reducing dependence on rain-fed agriculture.
- Enhance resilience and self-reliance among target populations.
